Honey Beer Glazed Wings

HONEY BEER GLAZED WINGS

Our Patriots may not have made it to the Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean we can’t join in on the game day festivities. For many, it’s all about the game, but for others, it’s all about the food (and halftime). I proudly identify with the latter group. I have been experimenting with a new wing recipe for the occasion. These beer-glazed wings (drumettes) are crispy and absolutely delicious. My family—my taste testers—has given them their enthusiastic stamp of approval.

Whether or not you agree on who deserves the title, Seahawks or Broncos (thanks, Google, for the info! But if it’s not the Pats, does it really matter?), you will agree these wings are great party food. Serve them up on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2 (once again, thanks, Google). The recipe can easily be multiplied, so be sure to have enough on hand!

HONEY BEER GLAZED WINGS

If you are not into football or game day, make these awesome wings any day you want. It’s a crowd-pleasing appetizer that is not to be missed! Try this out and enjoy!!

  • I have this extra large baking pan with a rack and use it all the time.
  • Large mixing bowl —this is stainless steel and dishwasher safe.
  • This slotted spatula is stainless steel with a wooden handle. It’s sturdy and ergonomic and comes with a lifetime warranty.
  • Kitchen tongs for picking up the wings.
  • Small saucepan—this one-quart stainless steel is a good size for cooking the sauce.

Description

These crispy Honey Beer Glazed Wings are baked chicken wings coated in a sweet and salty honey beer glaze. They are perfect for a Super Bowl party or any game day.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
  2. Pat drumettes dry with paper towels. Season with 1/2 rounded teaspoon of salt and pepper. Grease one large or two small baking pans. Place drumettes, skin side down, on the pans. Allow space between each piece. Overcrowding may produce too much liquid during baking. Bake in the lower half of the oven for 30 minutes. Drain any excess liquid. Move the baking sheet(s) to the upper half of the oven. Bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  3. Whisk cornstarch and beer in a small mixing bowl. Some foaming will occur. Set aside.
  4. Place a small saucepan on medium heat. Add oil and onion. Cook for 1 minute. Increase heat to medium-high. Add the beer and cornstarch mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, until the liquid boils and thickens slightly. Add soy sauce, honey, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper. Stir until the sauce is thick and smooth, another minute or so. If needed, adjust the seasoning to taste. Do so by adding soy sauce for more saltiness and honey for more sweetness.
  5. Place drumettes into a large mixing bowl. Pour the glaze onto the wings and mix. Garnish with peanuts and parsley. Plate and serve.
  6. Yields about 27 drumettes, depending on size. Makes 6 appetizer servings.

Note

  • Although I haven’t done it, if you would like the taste of beer to be less pronounced, I suggest replacing some of it with chicken broth.
