These Everything Bagel Pretzel Cheese Dogs are perfect for lunch or dinner, or make them mini for appetizers. They are cheese-stuffed hot dogs wrapped inside store-bought pizza dough, which is then turned into everything bagel pretzels. Delish!
I have wanted to make pretzel dogs for a while but have never gotten around to it until now. I love it and plan to make these babies all the time!! Using store-bought pizza dough makes the process a breeze!
There is one thing that makes pretzels different than bread. Pretzels require a quick dip in a water and baking soda solution prior to getting baked. The baking soda is said to help the pretzel brown and give it flavor. Some recipes require the pretzel to soak in a warm bath of the aforementioned solution for a minute or two, while others call for a quick dip into and out of the water. Then there are ones that require the pretzel to boil for about 30 seconds.
Boiling is the method that I choose. I like to think the payoff is bigger when you put in a little more effort.
The hot dog and cheese are wrapped in pretzel dough before being boiled for 30 seconds. If you’re concerned about how the cheese holds up during boiling, rest assured! The cheese will soften but will maintain its shape and remain intact. Just be sure to stick to the 30-second boiling time.
One thing to remember when assembling these dogs is that the hot dog is sliced almost entirely in half, and a strip of cheese is sandwiched in the middle. During baking, the cheese will ooze out. Do not fret when this happens! It can easily be pushed back after baking. Just use a chopstick or a butter knife.
I love the softness and chewiness of these pretzels. And the everything bagel seasoning…it’s everything!!
Enjoy these dogs for lunch or dinner, or make them half-size for appetizer servings. Either way, they will disappear quickly!

- This scoop colander is unnecessary, but it’s a handy utensil. It gently lifts and drains the pretzel dog while being lifted out of the boiling water.
- Baking soda is needed to turn the dough from regular bread into a pretzel.
- Pastry mat makes it easier to lift dough while it’s being rolled. It’s a helpful item but not necessary.

Ingredients
Instructions
- Allow pizza dough to come to room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour. If it is too cold, it will spring back when rolled and be difficult to shape.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.
- Roll the pizza dough into a rectangle at least 24 inches long and about 1/8 inch thick. If the dough sticks and is hard to work with, dust the work surface with a light coating of flour. Using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut out 6 strips (about 1/2-inch wide) lengthwise.
- Quarter the block of cheese lengthwise, then cut each in half to yield 8 strips. You will need only 6 of these strips, leaving 2 unused.
- Starting at the tip of the hot dog, slice it in half lengthwise, stopping 1/2-inch short on the opposite end, leaving it intact. Place a strip of cheese in the middle, sandwiching it inside the hot dog halves. Cut off the excess cheese sticking out at the tip.
- Add 5 cups of water to a medium saucepan. Add the baking soda. Stir until the baking soda dissolves. Bring water to a gentle boil.
- Meanwhile, take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog, starting at the open end and working your way toward the other in a coiling motion. Tuck both loose dough tips underneath an adjacent strip of dough, then secure to the hot dog with a toothpick. Repeat wrapping the remaining hot dogs.
- Carefully place one hot dog into the gently boiling water. Boil for 30 seconds. Using a large slotted spoon or spatula, remove the hot dog. Allow excess water to drip. Place on a paper towel-lined surface. Repeat until all of the hot dogs are boiled. Remove all toothpicks. Transfer hot dogs onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon of water to the egg. Beat well to make an egg wash. Brush onto the pretzel dogs. Sprinkle some everything bagel onto each dog. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.
- To push any cheese that has oozed out back into the hot dog after it is baked, let the cheese cool off slightly for a minute or two. This allows it to firm up slightly, making it easier to work with. Push the cheese back into the hot dog using a chopstick or butter knife.
Note:
- The preparation time does not include the 30 minutes to 1 hour needed for the chilled dough to come to room temperature before use.
