4th of July Candy Swirled Strawberries

Hello friends. It’s good to be back after a short break to take care of some unexpected family matters. I won’t delve into the details, but I will say the family suffered the loss of an elderly parent and the serious medical condition of another. It’s been one heck of a year for all of us. I believe there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to walk through it one step at a time.

Surprisingly, the year has gone by quickly for me. I can’t believe we are heading into July and Independence Day! So, let’s move on to something light-hearted, delicious, and easy to make!

One item on my dessert table will be these festive, simple, and easy candy-swirled strawberries. They are fresh, sweet, and bursting with color—a perfect summertime treat! Fresh, juicy red strawberries are dipped in melted white and blue candy to create a fun, eye-catching dessert that’s perfect for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, or any patriotic occasion. But you can change the color scheme to suit birthdays, baby showers, game day, and more!

This simple no-bake treat is fun to make and a great recipe to involve the kids.
Just be prepared for a little delicious mess when little helpers join in!

By the way, if you enjoy making these strawberry desserts with the kiddos, you will also have a blast with these Brownie Stuffed Swirled Marshmallow Pops. They, too, can be made into red, white, and blue themes for the 4th of July.

What are candy melts?

Candy melts might look and taste like white chocolate, but they are not the same. While both share similar ingredients, including sugar, milk solids, and flavoring, there is one main difference. White chocolate contains cocoa butter, whereas candy melts contain vegetable or palm oil.

When melted, oil-based candy melts are less likely to break or separate than white chocolate, making them a bit easier to work with. They also provide a smoother and creamier coating.

Thoroughly dry strawberries?

It is important to keep liquid out of the candy melts. Be sure to thoroughly dry the strawberries before dipping them. This will ensure the candy melts remain velvety smooth.

I’ll say it again—these candy coated strawberries are so easy and fun to make. I can dip and swirl them all day! Plus, they are healthy-ish, allowing me to indulge while providing the benefits of antioxidants. Win-win!!

Description

Kick up your summer parties with these easy candy-swirled strawberries, a perfect no-bake dessert for the 4th of July and Memorial Day, and they are customizable for other occasions.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly pat dry strawberries. Water might cause the candy melts to seize.
  2. Place white candy melts in a small microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 1 minute at 50% power. Stir.
  3. Microwave at 20-second intervals at 50% power until melted, stirring after each interval. Stop when the candy melts are smooth, creamy, and fluid. Do not overheat.
  4. Place the blue candy melts in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds at 50% power. Stir. Microwave at 20 seconds at 50% power. Stir until smooth, creamy, and fluid. Do not overheat.
  5. Place blue candy melts into a plastic bag. Close tight. Snip off a 1/8-inch opening in one corner. Draw an asterisk across the top of the white candy melts. There should be plenty of blue candy melts left in the bag.
  6. Dip 3/4 of a strawberry into the candy melts with the pointed end down, rotating it 180 degrees. Pull strawberries straight up to remove them.
  7. Allow candy melts to drip.
  8. Place on a tray, cap side down, to set.
  9. Before dipping the next strawberry, pipe additional swirls of blue candy melts into the bowl where the color has faded, if needed.
  10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 until all strawberries are coated.
  11. Makes about 44 strawberries.

Notes

  • The cooking time and number of intervals are based on a 1000W microwave oven. Adjust your cooking time according to your microwave’s wattage—higher wattage requires less time, and lower wattage requires more time.
  • The candy melts can also be melted over a double boiler as an alternative to the microwave.
  • Do not use a bowl too large to hold the melted candy melts for the best dipping results. Ensure the depth of the candy melts in the bowl is almost high enough to submerge the strawberries
  • The quantity of 44 for yield is an estimate. It is based on small to medium-sized strawberries. If you have larger strawberries, your yield will be less.
