Bacon Monte Cristo Sliders

Hi friends! How was your Labor Day weekend? I hope it was great, whether you celebrated it with friends and family or just relaxed at home.

Now that another major holiday is behind us, it’s time to seriously focus on the next task at hand, and for many of you, it’s armchair quarterbacking! My husband and I aren’t huge sports fans, but we’re happy to join in on the celebratory festivities associated with them (don’t hate us; we come bearing lots of food)!

On the other hand, our son is a passionate sports fan who loves watching TV. You can always tell he’s been in a room because the television is tuned to a game or a sports talk show. Speaking of TV habits—my husband’s presence is evident when you turn on the TV and NCIS pops up. I swear, he probably knows every episode inside and out. But who am I to judge? I’ve seen every episode of Friends at least a dozen times each!

Alright, back to the sliders. Monte Cristo doesn’t usually come with bacon, but I believe everything becomes 2.0 when you add bacon. Right? I also strayed from tradition by adding jalapeños, which I absolutely love in these sliders. They bring warmth and heat to this sandwich’s mild (but delicious) flavor profile. Since the jalapeños are just a garnish, they can easily be removed for those who can’t handle any level of heat.

Coincidentally, these sandwiches are great for parties and game days while also serving as a perfect lunch for the little kiddos! The sliders are just the right size for small hands and appetites. For the older kids, prepare some in advance for a quick and filling after-school snack that they can reheat in the toaster oven or microwave by themselves.

That’s it for now, my friends! See you back here next time!!

Description

Easily whip up a delicious appetizer for game day or any occasion with these Bacon Monte Cristo Sliders. They are filled with turkey, ham, bacon, and Swiss cheese and garnished with jalapeño slices for a zesty kick.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9″x13″ baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. Arrange bacon slices in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned, about 8-12 minutes (depending on how crispy you want it). Flip the bacon several times while cooking to ensure even browning. Remove and drain on layers of paper towels. Let it cool slightly. Cut each strip into three pieces. Set aside.
  3. Divide the turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese into 12 equal portions each (eyeball it… doesn’t have to be exact). Slice the dinner rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves on the prepared baking pan. Layer each dinner roll as follows: a portion of turkey and ham, two slices of bacon, and top it with a portion of cheese. Cover with the top halves of the dinner rolls.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, butter, mustard, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Generously brush the egg wash over the tops of the dinner rolls. Let the egg wash soak in for 2 minutes. Pour any remaining egg wash over the rolls, using a brush to spread it evenly on top. Garnish each roll with two slices of jalapeño.
  5. Spray a large foil with cooking spray. Cover the baking dish with the foil with the greased side down. Bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for 10 additional minutes.
  6. Makes 12 servings.

Note:

  • It is best eaten on the same day. If refrigerated or dried out, microwave each for about 15 seconds or until barely warm enough to soften before eating.

We watch the Super Bowl at my house, but frankly, I'm more interested in the halftime performance, especially if the Patriots are not playing. And , pssst!…just between you and I, us cooks are the silent VIPs of the game. Just imagine how boring it would be without all the food that we make (haa haa!)
