For an easy, rib-sticking meal, serve beans with this Slow-Roasted BBQ Pork.
This easy green bean recipe is a family favorite. It’s our substitution for the traditional green bean casserole. It is one of the easiest side dishes to make and the most delicious to eat. As you can see, I am not partial at all 😉
This is a recipe that I got from my mother-in-law. She used to serve it practically every Sunday dinner at her house. At times, there were eight of us at the table, and we ALL loved it! Over the years, they became a staple in my home as well.
Why do we love it so much? Besides its rich, comforting flavor, this side dish is incredibly easy to make. Canned green beans are the secret to getting that perfectly tender texture without any extra prep work. After cooking the chopped bacon until crispy, add the green beans to simmer with the bacon, a little of the rendered bacon fat, and beef broth, letting the flavors meld and the beans soak up all that rich, savory, beefy, bacony goodness. A topping of crispy fried onions adds the perfect crunchy finish. Trust me—we all want seconds, and so will you!
If you’re looking for an easy side dish that will please everyone, these green beans are what you need. They are perfect for a family dinner or the holidays. This dish is a staple at our Thanksgiving, Christmas, and pretty much every special occasion meal. If it is not made, I will hear about it!

- Cut bacon into 3/4-inch pieces. Add bacon to a large, preheated, nonstick 6-quart saucepan over medium to medium-high heat. Brown bacon using wooden spatulas to separate pieces, approximately 10 minutes. Drain most of the fat. Set aside.
- Return the pan to the heat and add the green beans and beef broth. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway. Remove from heat. Drain most of the liquid, leaving at least 1/8″ of liquid at the bottom of the pan. Stir-fry the onions. Transfer the bean mixture to a serving bowl.

hmm
I wish the fried onions were Gluten free.
Hi Sue. They are available, but you might have to do a little searching for them. I did a quick Google search and found that Full Circle Market and Ian’s Foods are two brands that make gluten free French fried onion rings. I think Price Chopper and Wegmans carry them, if you have those stores near you.
WOW! Thanks for the search info…I’ll try to find a local source.
My pleasure! Good luck!!
